Letters, journals, drawings, original drafts of published materials, and other items documenting Lieber's travels and scientific contributions, including letters, 2 and 16 July 1858, Philadelphia, Pa., from chemist F[rederick] A[ugustus] Genth, re Lieber's second geological report and criticism of South Carolina's handling of the project, and requesting land and freshwater shells; 23 Aug. 1858, from John Lynch, re successfully laying the cable, and expecting Ursuline nuns to establish a school at Columbia, S.C.; ca.1858, Greenville, S.C., re surveying Greenville District for a map; 22 Aug. 1859, "Camp near Anderson" [S.C.], to Col. A[ndrew] P[ickens] Calhoun, Pendleton, [S.C.], re camp life at Sandy Springs, and sending regards to the Calhoun family; typescript copies of 6 letters, 1859-1862, to Dr. Edmund Ravenel, re Lieber's reports as State Geologist, origin of rice lands, bibliography of works on geology, mineralogy, and paleontology of S.C., and his trip to Labrador; and typed copy of will, 7 Apr. 1862, Richard I.
